I am so excited to be dropping off not only my submissions, but submission for two of my stellar students in a local juried exhibition.  Teenagers don’t always respond the way you think they will, and one did not seem too excited until the last set of 4 paintings she did were all framed and sitting in front of her.  She suddenly seemed very excited about them and struggled to choose her two entries, and then decided her favourite one was also one she would keep, so she deemed it “not for sale”.  It is truly a brilliant piece too!  There is nothing better as an artist, teacher, and mentor than to see your students creating without need, just because they love it and they play and linger in the process.  So much beauty comes out.  I look back over the pieces we did together last year and see their progress and growth, and I say “it was a good year indeed.”  It sets me to look forward to the year ahead.

Well, the other aspect of seeing your students reach new levels is seeing them pass you by as they get accepted for Juried Exhibitions that you didn’t get chosen for…It is joy mixed with just a hint of dissapoint, but not really. I am thrilled that one of my students was chosen and for a great piece too! One of the best yet! I know the juror chooses the flow of the whole show and not just the quality of the pieces. So congratulations Taylor! Can’t wait for the opening at Visual Arts Clarington October 19-November 9, 2008. Opening Reception: Sunday, October 19, 2-4 pm
